The Staten Island Grand Jury decision on Eric Garner broke me. I stumbled through my day, got into verbal fights with people I loved, and realized this afternoon how overwhelmingly guilty I felt.

I did everything I usually do when I’m feeling too much, and nothing worked. So I took to Twitter. What I was talking about is something that I see a lot of people struggling with in the news, and amongst my friends & connections on┬ásocial media: the distinction between shame and guilt as they relate to race.

I hope we can find justice, someday. I know we can. Rest in peace, Eric. My heart is with you, Esaw Garner, and your six children.
